Bedrest- Henry.

As I mentioned in my last post, mama hurt her back. She's been complaining of a sore back for the past week. Then on Saturday afternoon, things went from bad to worse. Her lower back was giving her a lot of pain and she was having trouble walking. Sunday morning, she felt a little better, but within an hour she was back on the couch. By the time Grandma and Grandpa left, she couldn't even sit up.

So papa took her to the doctor (why does this family only get sick and hurt on the weekend?). He had to wheel her in with a wheelchair. The doctor ordered X-rays- which were a slow and painful process. The good news was that they didn't see any breaks, bulging discs or tumors- which meant mama was just have severe back spasms. The doctor sent her home with some strong pain medication and even stronger muscle relaxers (horse tranquilizers as mama calls them). Mama is on strict orders to lay on her back with her feet up. The doctor did encourage her to get up and move a little when the muscle relaxers kicked in. The doctor's word were "walk as much as you can, even if it's just a half a block and back." Unfortunately, mama hasn't had that much success. On Sunday, it took her 40 minutes to crawl from the living room up the stairs and into her bed. She has been able to cut the trip from her bed to the bathroom from about 20 minutes to only about 5 minutes. She still can't walk, but was able to sit propped up for a couple minutes this morning.

Papa took these pictures yesterday. Baby June likes mama being hurt, because now she gets constant attention. Unfortunately for papa, mama can't change diapers.

Mama looks a little rough, but you can be glad that she did get cleaned up last night. Papa told her he would only take care of her if she cleaned up because she was getting ripe. So she crawled in the bathroom and leaned over the bathtub. Papa washed her hair and even changed her into clean clothes.

Here's mama in the height of her activity. She tried to read the newspaper laying down, but it mostly just turned into a big mess. Juner thought it was pretty funny.
While she still can't move, mama's spirits are high. This is thanks to the drugs and the fact that papa finally caved in and made her the radish sandwich she's been asking for (radishes, bread, and butter- so good). When you're surrounded by cheese curds, sweet peas, and radishes, how could you be unhappy?

Plus, Miss Jenny (on top of watching June and I all day) loaned her Season 1 on Little House on the Prairie. Score!

The doctor says that recovery could take 1-2 weeks. Mama hopes it's on the shorter side. She's already starting to go crazy and it's only been 3 days.

Henry and June,

We hope your mom gets better soon! I don't know what I'd do if my mom was out of commission.
