The greatest place on earth- Henry.

This weekend we traveled not only to Washington, D.C., but also back in time, as we spent a glorious day visiting the Maryland Renaissance Festival (second in size, only to the great festival in Dayton). Juner and I have never been to a Renaissance Festival before, but mama and papa used to go every year and love them!
This festival was great because the fair food knew no bounds! Mama gobbled up her mac and cheese on a stick.

I gave it a try too, but preferred the cheesy bread.

Papa stuck with the theme and devoured his giant turkey leg.

Papa wouldn't share so June had to settle for her own turkey leg.

Besides the food, there was so much fun stuff to do! Papa and I rode down the olde timey slide.

We were accompianied to the Faire by mama's old roomate, Miss Leah (the real reason we went to D.C.). Miss Leah actually got into the fair and had a costume to wear. June loved her!

Miss Leah's friend, Miss Maggie, also came too. As a pirate. We love Miss Maggie and applaud her for her amazing dedication to the cause, even though it was in excess of 90 degrees out. We just wish you could have seen the full skirt and petticoat that completed this ensemble.

Miss Maggie took no prisoners and showed no mercy to this turkey leg!
Later, she showed me around her pirate ship.
The heat got the best of us and we had to abandon our hopes of beef stew in a bread bowl (an all time favorite of mama and Miss Leah's). Instead we made the switch over to lots and lots of frozen and ice cream products.

Even Junie got a taste of mama's fried ice cream (see what we mean about eclectic? Mama debated a falafel for a long time).

I was so sweaty, mama and papa couldn't help but load me full of ice cream.

But I was nice enough to shar with mama.

But took the cone for myself.

Later, papa took some time to contemplate life. Or maybe just how he could get a root beer float without the rest of the family eating it first.

But papa isn't all brains and thinking. He's also pure brawn, as he demonstrated with his axe-throwing skills.

We all personally guarantee that he hit the target every time.

To end the day, mama took me to a maze. We had so much fun. Mama wishes she'd had the camera to capture me running and yelling "This way! Now this way! Now this way! Dead end!"
